"It is Christ Whom We Proclaim". That was the theme of this year's Eucharistic Congress,
held by the Diocese of Charlotte, NC. It took placed from October 3-4 at the Charlotte
Convention Center. The Eucharistic Congress is an annual, two-day, free event, that
celebrates and teaches about the Eucharistic, about experiences surrounding the Eucharist, and about how it pertains to our lives as people. It is an opportunity for the entire Diocese to gather together to celebrate our faith, our Church and our love for the Lord.
At this year's Eucharistic Congress, there was an ample representation of our Capuchin
Franciscan Friars. Those in attendance were: Br. Lombardo D'Auria, O.F.M. Cap, Fr. Remo
DiSalvatore, O.F.M. Cap, Fr. Stan Kobel, O.F.M. Cap, Br. Michael Molloy, O.F.M. Cap, Br. John
Russo, O.F.M. Cap and Fr. John Salvas, O.F.M. Cap. It was a joyous celebration filled with
exultation, devotion and true faith. This year we were acknowledged for our work in the
community and Diocese throughout the year. By celebrating the Eucharist, we not only bear witness but proclaim our eternal faith.
The Eucharistic congress is an event that tries to encompass and appeal to as many
people as possible. Because there is not charge, everyone who wants a closer relationship
with the Eucharist is encouraged to attend and participate. There are special seminars for
elementary, middle, and high school students as well as seminars offered both in English and Spanish. There is a Chapel for Eucharistic Adoration, Confession, and music provided by churches throughout the Diocese. There are also vendors from Catholic shops offering
religious good. This event is a great opportunity to both become closer to our Faith and to
meet others from the Diocese and from all over the Southeast. Despite our differences,
whether it be age, culture, or language, everyone is united to praise God and celebrate our
Salvation.
