St. Mark presents Jesus predicting his suffering and death. Three times in chapter 8, 9, 10 the prophecy is clearly stated. After his first prediction, Peter does not accept the news and Jesus shouts at Peter and calls him "Satan." The second time, the disciples argue about whom is the greatest. At the third time, James and John ask to be the chief of staff and the secretary of state of Jesus' presidency. We know Jesus' response: "Whoever wishes to be first, should be last." James and John actually say: "What's in it for me?" Jesus without hesitation points out "the cross, service, martyrdom... that's what is in it for you!"
