This is the 34th and last Sunday of the liturgical year, and what an ending that is! Even though this feast was introduced by Pope Pius XI in 1925 to counteract the atheistic attitude of his time, the origin of this feast is rooted in the bible, which declares Christ as our our king many times. There are about 20 kings in our 21st century, however none of them comes even close to the unique kingship of Christ. Many kings have lived and gone, we don't even remember their names. Jesus is king and always remembered because he is crowned with thorns, not gold. He is not seated on a precious royal throne but his throne is the cross.
