The biblical readings today mention love 25 times. To understand why love is so important, we may want to consider that the love-words must be translated into love-works; we cannot just talk the talk of love, we must walk the walk of love because God's words of love always become God's works of love. Sometimes there is a breach between knowing and doing, knowing and believing, knowing and loving. Jesus says: There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. In this context love becomes life. It is hard to give a definition of a true friend, I may try: "A friend is the one who comes in when everybody leaves." Friendship is not two people looking at each other, but together looking at one direction.
