Temptations come and go and the devil is very active about them. He even tempted Jesus and when he realized his defeat, "he left Jesus for a time," not for ever. Therefore, we experience temptations from the day we are born to the day we die. It is helpful to reflect on the temptation so we may be well prepared to face then when they invade our lives. Temptations always involve promises and illusions. When we are tempted we are given a promise of something that looks very good to us or usually the promise comes disguised as something good. The devil made all kinds of promises to Jesus only if Jesus would do certain things. The promises were all apparently good (food, power, glory). Jesus rejected all of them because they were not really promises but illusions.
