Death and life, darkness and light are integral part of our journey of faith. The book of Genesis (ch. 15) shows God inviting Abraham to "look up at the sky and count the stars" in order to fulfill in him his plan of salvation. King David in Psalm 27 asks for light to dispel his fears, to see better his vocation, to be aware of God's presence, and to make his journey less bumpy. St. Paul by developing the theme of death and life, darkness and light, reminds the Philippians (ch 3 and 4) very strongly "that we are citizens of heaven," and our existence on earth is only temporary, as it is our pilgrimage.
