The 4th chapter of the gospel of Mark brings to our attention 4 parables about the kingdom of God. Jesus, being a good story teller, explains the kingdom of God with parables, however, sowing seeds and oil in the lamp do not seem to appeal to the 21st century people, who are growing up with electronic gadgets. Let me share with you a real story about the kingdom of God in our 21st century. A man "Don" crept into the back of the church at an early Sunday Mass, last row, aisle seat, barely in, quickly out if needed be. Of course did not go to Communion. After Communion a woman soloist sang a haunting rendition of "Amazing Grace. "Every wretch that was saved" was really moved to tears, except one, the old priest who celebrated the Mass. He said to the congregation: "I hate this song. I am not a wretch. You are not a wretch, because the kingdom of God is within you." Then, moving down the center aisle on his way out, was saying to every person: "The kingdom of God is within you, and you, and you, and you." "Oh, no!" thought Don, as the priest approached with his jabbing finger, "and you too, Don" and embraced him.
