For the next five Sundays, we will be reading chapter 6 of St. John's gospel. Even though this chapter is quite long (17 verses), the topic is only one word: "Eucharist." As the etymology of Eucharist points out, we are grateful to the Lord for gathering us together around his table to share his presence. Therefore the Eucharist becomes unity and binding force because we all experience hunger and thirst, so we must eat and drink. Our hunger is not so much for bread which we can buy at the supermarket. It is hunger and thirst for God, definitely needed to survive spiritual death and enjoy meaningful life.
