Today's gospel is a continuation of the beatitudes. There are powerful statements how to make vengeance an act of love, forgiveness a way of life. It is clear that our goodness is not measured by our neighbor's standards, no matter how good or bad our neighbor is. The standard of our goodness is Jesus himself, therefore do not get discouraged if our goodness falls short, very short in meeting that standard, in fact God loves us the way we are. God has always loved the sinners and hated the sin. God is love because love generates love, hatred generates hatred. It may be helpful which love do we really have: Agape = Unselfish concern of the good of another Philia = Delight of another's presence Storge = Instinctive concern for blood relative Eros = sensual love
