We all have something to contribute toward the betterment of society and to our local community. It doesn’t have to be grandiose or make headlines, but it is important and a necessary part of living. A handshake, a smile, a gentle word, an unseen act of kindness, are often the little things that make a big difference in people’s lives. The community of St. Lawrence strives to uphold and honor the inherent dignity of each and every person regardless of that person’s physical or mental condition. We are all created in the image and likeness of God; we are all gifts to one another.
It goes without saying that food is an essential part of living. Our meal times are more than simply enjoying a fine cuisine prepared by professionals; it is an important time for building relationships, discussing the day’s events, and taking part in the sometimes spirited banter between members.
Life is a series of new beginnings. We are constantly transitioning from one stage to another, and with each new phase comes a different set of needs and requirements. “A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather... (Ecclesiastes 3:5).” Change is never easy, but having different options made available based on personal needs is a source of comfort and reassurance.
Our Infirmary, or skilled care section offers round the clock individual attention and supervision. A Registered Nurse is on duty 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Hospitals and other medical facilities are located nearby.
Opportunities abound for anyone with inspiration and imagination. Special interests, hobbies, work projects, and pastoral ministries are available to all who wish to pursue such ventures.
There comes a time when we need that little extra help with the ordinary activities of everyday life. Maybe our balance is not what it used to be, or we get out of breath more easily, whatever our current health issues are, its good to know that there are people at St. Lawrence Friary who are willing and able to assist.
With the entire facility being wheelchair accessible, no one should feel excluded.
Community living, daily celebration of the Eucharist, Liturgy of the Hours and other devotions, common meals and recreation, exercise room, library, and the beautiful countryside––all contribute to an atmosphere of wholeness and well-being.
